The Trip

Mountain golf, cool mornings, and a week with a genuine sense of place.

Chiang Mai is the Thailand trip for golfers who have done the beaches — or never wanted them. The courses sit at elevation in the hills around the old Lanna capital, which means cool mornings, clear air and mountain views on every hole. It is a different game from the coast, and a different country from Bangkok.

Three rounds across Highlands, Alpine and Summit Green Valley — the strongest trio in the north on conditioning. Between them, temples, elephants and one of Asia's great food cities. Green fees, caddies and private transfers all handled; the hotel is your choice.

Chiang Mai runs on the opposite calendar to the coast. We will tell you plainly when to come and when not to — see below.

The Week

A suggested shape — every day flexes to your group, your handicaps and your pace. Nothing here is fixed in stone.

Day1

Arrival

Private transfer from Chiang Mai International to your hotel. Evening at leisure in the old city, inside the moat — dinner recommendations arranged to taste.

Day2

Chiang Mai Highlands Round 1

Twenty-seven holes at elevation in the foothills east of the city, designed by Lee Schmidt of Schmidt-Curley — the firm behind Blue Canyon and Siam Country Club. Immaculate paspalum fairways and the best conditioning in the north.

Day3

At leisure

Doi Suthep above the city, the old temples inside the moat, or a morning at an ethical elephant sanctuary — arranged privately.

Day4

Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai Round 2

Sister course to Alpine in Bangkok, carved out of the San Kamphaeng forests. A championship layout at 7,541 yards from the tips, and host of the Chiang Mai Golf Classic.

Day5

At leisure

A cooking class with one of the city's finest chefs, the Sunday walking street, or the craft villages out towards San Kamphaeng.

Day6

Summit Green Valley Round 3

Twenty-seven holes designed by Dennis Griffiths — the same architect as Thai Country Club in Bangkok — and among the best-kept courses in the north. Close to the city, with night golf if the group wants more.

Day7

At leisure

A final day at your own pace — the mountains, the markets, or a long lunch somewhere quiet.

Day8

Departure

Private transfer to Chiang Mai International in good time for your flight.

When to come — and when not to

We will not sell you Chiang Mai in March. From roughly mid-February to April, agricultural burning across northern Thailand and neighbouring countries fills the valley with smoke, and Chiang Mai sits in a mountain basin with nowhere for it to go. In March 2026 the city was ranked the most polluted in the world. Most operators will still happily take the booking, because the brochure says “November to April”. We won't. Come between November and early February for cool, clear mountain air — or come May to October, when the rains keep the air clean and the north is green. In March, we will send you to the coast instead, and the golf there is excellent.

Choose Your Level

The same courses, the same rounds, the same care — the only thing that changes is where you rest your head. Pick the tier that fits the trip you want.
