The Trip

A thousand-year-old capital, northern golf, and Ha Long Bay within reach.

Hanoi is the Vietnam that people fall for. The old quarter is genuinely ancient, the coffee culture is serious, and the city has a density and a texture that Saigon — for all its energy — does not. The golf in the north is less developed than the coast, but the best of it is very good indeed.

Three rounds across Van Tri, Kings Island and Long Bien. Van Tri is widely regarded as the finest course in northern Vietnam — a private club, and one we can open for you. Ha Long Bay is a comfortable day's excursion, or an overnight on the water if you have the time.

Green fees, caddies and private transfers all handled.

The Week

A suggested shape — every day flexes to your group, your handicaps and your pace. Nothing here is fixed in stone.

Day1

Arrival

Private transfer from Noi Bai to your hotel. Evening at leisure in the old quarter — the best street food in the country is a short walk in any direction.

Day2

Van Tri Golf Club Round 1

A private club north of the city and, by common consent, the finest course in northern Vietnam. Quiet, immaculate, and rarely seen by visitors.

Day3

At leisure

The old quarter, the Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem lake at dawn, or the coffee houses. Hanoi is a walking city.

Day4

Kings Island Golf Resort Round 2

Out towards Ba Vi mountain, on the lake — the established golf resort in the north and a pleasant contrast to Van Tri.

Day5

Ha Long Bay

A full day on the water among the limestone karsts, or an overnight on a private boat if you have the time. One of the genuine wonders of Asia and two and a half hours from the city.

Day6

Long Bien Golf Course Round 3

Twenty-seven holes by Nelson & Haworth and the closest course to the city — ten kilometres from the old quarter. We play it midweek: it is a public course and it fills up at weekends.

Day7

At leisure

A last day in the capital — the museums, the markets, or a long lunch somewhere old.

Day8

Departure

Private transfer to Noi Bai in good time for your flight.

When to come — the north is not the south

Hanoi has a genuine winter. From December to February it can sit at 15°C with grey drizzle for days — playable, but not what most people picture when they book Vietnam. The best golfing months in the north are October and November, and again March to May. June to August is hot and humid with afternoon storms. If you want Vietnam in January and you want warmth, we will send you to Da Nang or Saigon instead and tell you why.

Choose Your Level
